Recent studies have revealed that Koshu grapes are a natural hybrid of European wine grapes and wild Asian grapes.
In other words, these are "grape varieties unique to Japan, cultivated over many years in the Japanese climate."
Koshu is the most widely produced white wine in Japan. It ranks number one in production volume among white wine grape varieties in Japan.
