Fushimi is one of Japan's most famous sake producing areas, with sake breweries lined up along the river with swaying willow trees, and Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, the head shrine of the 30,000 Inari shrines across the country, with its rows of vibrant vermilion torii gates.

Kyoto Rakunan

    When the capital was moved to Heian, Jonan-gu Shrine was enshrined to the south of the royal palace (the capital) in prayer for the peace of the country and the protection of the capital, and hence it came to be called Jonan-gu Shrine.

  • It grants women's wishes, such as prayers for beauty and finding a partner.

    This is a prestigious temple also known as the Imperial Temple, as it is the family temple of the Imperial family. The Buddhist hall was rebuilt by Tokugawa Ietsuna.

  • It has been known as "The daigo of Flower" since the Heian period, and is also famous for being the place where Toyotomi Hideyoshi held cherry blossom viewing parties.

    This temple has a vast area with the entirety of Daigo-san mountain within its grounds. The five-story pagoda, built in 951 to commemorate Emperor Daigo, is the oldest wooden structure in Kyoto Prefecture.

  • The view from Tsutenkyo Bridge is amazing.

    One of the Kyoto Gozan. The largest Zen temple in Kyoto. It was named "Tofukuji" after one character from Todaiji Temple and Kofukuji Temple in Nara. The "Hasso Garden" by Mirei Shigemori is a must-see.
