As part of a research project by Professor Oyama of the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature, The Westin Miyako Kyoto will be installing a compost pit using some of the food waste discarded by the hotel from August 2023. The compost is made using a method called dry composting, which does not require water and uses only microorganisms and high-quality kitchen waste (food waste from the All Day Dining "RAQOU"). In the future, the hotel aims to play a part in recycling resources by having contracted farmers use the pit to grow strawberries and figs, and then planning and providing products using those crops for the hotel.

The Westin Miyako Kyoto has installed a standard charging station for electric vehicles as part of the hotel's efforts towards the SDGs. Two standard chargers (8 kW) for Porsche genuine electric vehicles have been installed, allowing charging of all domestic electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles, including Porsche models. The station is available for use by hotel guests, including those staying overnight, attending banquets, and using the restaurant.
 

Four hotels - Sheraton Miyako Hotel Tokyo Hotel Tokyo, Sheraton Miyako Hotel Osaka, The Westin Miyako Kyoto, and Osaka Marriott Miyako Hotel - are participating in "EARTH HOUR," one of the world's largest social good projects, in which hotels turn off their lights at the same time on the same day around the world to show their commitment to preventing global warming and protecting the environment.
 

The Westin Miyako Kyoto has changed its bathroom amenities from July 2022. We are reducing the number of plastic bottles used, including shampoo, conditioner, and body shampoo, by changing them to wall-mounted residence style bottles.
