A historical experience at Shima Kanko Hotel
The Charm of Murano Architecture Seen in the CLUB
the CLUB , the building that Shima Kanko Hotel was built in when it first opened, was built after the war, when materials were difficult to obtain, by relocating the main part of a naval meeting hall. Many of the designs by Togo Murano, a representative architect of the Showa era, remain to this day, and the hotel is visited by many architecture fans.
There is an exhibition of the desk actually used by author Toyoko Yamazaki, who wrote novels such as "The Magnificent Clan" while staying at the hotel.
Please take a seat at the summit table representing each country and experience the atmosphere of that time.
Lian
Cafe & Wine Bar "Lien" is located on the second floor of "the CLUB." When it first opened, it was used as the main dining area, but later transformed into a Traditional Japanese restaurant and then a cafe, before moving on to its current state. The interior is classical and full of character, with high ceilings made of thick pine wood, white walls, and lighting that remain unchanged since the restaurant's founding.
Guan
The Tea Ceremony Room “Guan” remains exactly as it was when it first opened. It was named by Handeishi Kawakita, one of Japan's leading ceramic artists, who was president of the Hyakugo Bank, a regional bank with its head office in Mie Prefecture and was known as "Rosanjin in the East, Handeishi in the West." A plaque written by Handeishi hangs at the entrance to the teahouse, and the authentic teahouse with its hearth lit exudes a dignified atmosphere.
Garden
In the garden, there is a monument with a poem written by Emperor Showa in 1951, which describes the view of Ago-Bay from the heights of Kashikojima in the hotel garden.
