Mie Traditional Craft Experience: Calligraphy Workshop to Discover the Charm of Ink

Suzuka Sumi is the only ink in Japan designated as a traditional craft product and is produced in the Shirako area of Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture.
Find peace of mind through calligraphy and Maneki-neko (lucky cat) painting experiences as you discover the charm of Suzuka ink, a traditional craft.

Participation Fee ・Calligraphy Experience (Colored Paper): JPY 1,000 , Folding Fan: JPY 1,500
Grind ink with an inkstone and write your favorite characters or words on colored paper or a folding fan.

・Maneki-neko (lucky cat) painting experience: JPY 1,000
We will paint the Maneki-neko (lucky cat) with colored ink.

Instructor Introduction Both spouses are calligraphers who run a calligraphy school in Suzuka, Mie Prefecture, using Suzuka ink. Mrs. Koka Bandai provided calligraphy for international media at the G7 Ise-Shima Summit in 2016. They also create product logos and event titles for corporate clients.
  • Children of elementary school age or younger must be accompanied by a guardian.
  • Your sleeves or clothing may become soiled. (Disposable aprons are provided.)
  • Estimated time: about 10 to 20 minutes
