Yokkaichi Banko ware painting experience

A painting experience at Suigetsutouen, the company that produced the toast cups at the Ise-Shima Summit.

Banko ware is a specialty of Mie Prefecture and is a traditional craft designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. We will paint sake cups, pendant tops and chopstick rests, then fire them at a later date and deliver them to your home.

Banko ware has a history dating back about 300 years. Zuigetsugama has been protecting and nurturing that tradition. Zuigetsugama is the third generation, along with his two sons Jun and Ushio, and his wife Kishiyo. They have devoted their lives to the outstanding techniques of traditional craftsmanship, and are constantly striving to create elegant tableware that can be cherished and used for generations to come.

1947: Born in Yokkaichi 2003: Painted tea pottery with the first Kishidai signature at the Hisai-an Hayata exhibition 2006: Presented a morie tea bowl with "A Pilgrimage to Ise" to Ise Grand Shrine 2007: Commemorative Banko Morie Exhibition, Hisai-an Hayata 2010: Banko Morie Exhibition depicting local customs, Hisai-an Hayata 2010: Awarded an international prize at the COP10 International Conference, with a ceramic plate with a morie painting of "Autumn Grasses and Insects" used as a commemorative item 2011: Awarded an international prize at the 2nd Japan Biodiversity Awards, with a ceramic plate with a morie painting of "Autumn Grasses and Insects" used as a commemorative item
