Toba Sea-Folk Museum
A museum of "sea and man" that conveys the culture of the sea and Shima
This museum houses and exhibits approximately 60,000 folk materials (6,879 of which are nationally designated Important Tangible Folk Cultural Properties) relating to the sea, such as female divers, fishing, wooden boats, and sea festivals.
Approximately 90 wooden boats and documents relating to female divers collected from around the country are among the highlights.
We also offer a range of sea-related experiences throughout the year, including craft experiences using shells and seaweed, observing creatures living on the coasts and tidal flats, and cooking fish dishes.
In addition, buildings designed by Hiroshi Naito have won the Architectural Institute of Japan Award and been selected as one of the 100 Best Public Buildings in Japan.
