Shima Kokubunji Temple
A government-run temple established in Shima Province during the Nara period by order of Emperor Shomu.
The principal image, a statue of Yakushi Nyorai (Medicine Buddha), is designated as a prefectural cultural property. The current main hall, rebuilt during the Edo period, features intricate carvings created by the 10th head priest, Gijun.
