Enjoy a summer afternoon tea with vibrant tropical sweets and Japanese sweets. A selection of sweet and gorgeous desserts will be available, including a glass dessert made with two types of melon, lime opera cake, and fruit tarts with kiwi and pineapple. For Japanese sweets, try the local flavor of tokoroten made with Amakusa seaweed from Shima, served with a noodle soup-like bonito broth. For savory dishes, we offer a variety of flavorful dishes made with Matsusaka beef, abalone, SHINJU scallops, and spiny lobster.

"Afternoon Tea" expresses the cycle of nature and its abundant blessings using wood from Mie

To mark the 70th anniversary of our opening, we created an original afternoon tea stand using wood from Mie. By using evergreen broadleaf trees that grow naturally in the mountains of Mie, we expressed the cycle of the natural environment, and the design expressed our gratitude for serving food at the foot of Ise Jingu. We offer a wide variety of sweets, mainly made with seasonal local ingredients, which you can enjoy along with the rich blessings of nature. The blessings of the sea come from the abundance of the forest. This afternoon tea is filled with the nature, climate, and charm of Mie, and expresses the "Ise-Shima Gastronomy" that the hotel has cherished.

The design features sturdy and elegant Zelkova wood, which is also used in temple and shrine architecture and old houses, and Tochigi Japanese horse chestnut, which has a beautiful grain called ripple marks. Both are broad-leaved trees that grow naturally in the local Ise forest, and represent the diversity of the forest.

The hotel has been promoting the " Ise-Shima Gastronomy " initiative, which aims to convey the background and appeal of ingredients born from Mie's rich natural environment through cuisine, events, and the hotel's quarterly magazine, " Shima Time ." To mark the 70th anniversary of the hotel's opening, we have planned an original wooden stand with the desire to further expand this initiative.

As a result of this project, Shima Kanko Hotel was certified as a Mie Prefecture "Wood Use Declaration" business in January 2021.

Attention to design

The lid is made by combining three boards, representing the Kushida River, Miyagawa River, and Isuzu River flowing into Ise Bay, expressing the cycle that continues from the forests of Ise to the rivers and sea.

No nails are used in the stand, and we have stuck to traditional wooden construction.

The handle depicts the beautiful sun rising from the torii gate of Uji Bridge at Ise Shrine.

Mie Prefecture "Wood Use Declaration" A system promoted by Mie Prefecture to certify and register businesses that actively use and promote wood produced in the prefecture.
The aim is to promote "green circulation" by actively cutting down and utilizing forest resources. Shima Kanko Hotel will continue to actively use wood from the prefecture as part of its efforts to achieve the SDGs.
