Afternoon Tea inspired by the natural rhythms and abundant bounty of Mie's woodlands

To celebrate our 70th anniversary, we created an original afternoon tea stand crafted from Mie wood. Made from evergreen broadleaf trees native to the mountains of Mie, the design reflects the cycle of nature and expresses our gratitude for serving cuisine on the doorstep of Ise Jingu Shrine. We offer a variety of sweets centered on seasonal local ingredients, allowing you to enjoy the rich blessings nurtured by nature. The bounty of the sea is nourished by the richness of the forest. This afternoon tea embodies the hotel’s cherished Ise-Shima gastronomy, capturing the essence of Mie’s nature, climate, and charm.

We use durable, elegant zelkova, commonly used in temple architecture and traditional houses, along with beautifully rippled horse chestnut wood. Both are broadleaf trees native to the forests of Ise, representing the diversity of the local woodland.

At the hotel, under the name "Ise-Shima Gastronomy," we have been sharing the stories and appeal of ingredients born from Mie's rich nature through our cuisine, events, and seasonal in-house magazine "Shima Time." To celebrate our 70th anniversary, we have created an original wooden stand to further expand this initiative.

Through this initiative, Shima Kanko Hotel was certified under the "Wood Use Declaration" program in Mie Prefecture in January 2021.

The lid consists of three panels depicting the Kushida, Miyagawa, and Isuzu Rivers as they flow into Ise Bay, symbolizing the cycle from the forests of Ise to the rivers and out to the sea.
