Born in 1951 in Minato Ward, Tokyo. At age 20, inspired by the Count Basie Orchestra, he pursued jazz and taught himself double bass. While serving as a regular member in groups led by Toshiyuki Honda, Hiroshi Tamura, Yuri Tashiro, Masahiro Sayama, Mitsuaki Sugano, Kazuo Yashiro, Eiji Kitamura, Kunihiko Sugano, Sir Charles Thompson, and Yuzuru Sera, he also led his own trio and enjoyed a long-standing collaboration with jazz vocalist Junko Mine. Since 2002, he has served as the music coordinator at Sheraton Miyako Hotel Tokyo, a role paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic and set to resume in October 2024.
He has frequently recorded and performed with top international jazz musicians such as Benny Carter, Teddy Wilson, Buddy DeFranco, Gary Foster, Junior Cook, Barry Harris, Gene DiNovi, Scott Hamilton, and Eddie Higgins. In 1988, he spent several months performing around Geneva and Europe, and in 1989, he toured western Canada, including Vancouver. That same year, he appeared for two consecutive weeks at the New York jazz club CARLOS-1. He also performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival in California in 1994 and the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland in 1997. He has contributed to over 50 records, CDs, and DVDs.
