World Heritage Site Kiyomizu-dera Temple

Sanjusangendo

Shoren-in Temple
The gardens of Kobori Enshu Kirishima and Soami Garden are famous. The main hall houses the national treasure, a statue of the Blue Acala.

Chion-in Temple
Founded by the monk Honen, this is the head temple of the Jodo sect of Buddhism. It is famous for its wooden Sanmon gate, one of the largest in Japan, and its New Year's Eve bell.

The five-story pagoda is about 55 meters tall, making it the tallest wooden tower in Japan.
