KASUIEN, Japanese Garden

A garden centered around natural bedrock, designed by Hakuyo, the eldest son of the 7th generation Jihei Ogawa

[Registered as a Kyoto City Cultural Property (Scenic Spot) on April 1, 1994] The garden was created in 1925 by Byakuyo, the eldest son of Ogawa Jihei VII, a landscape gardener known as a pioneer of modern landscaping. He was particularly skilled in working with stone structures, and created a magnificent waterfall by drawing in water from the Lake Biwa Canal.

KASUIEN"White Sand Courtyard"

Courtyard designed by architect Togo Murano

Murano Togo, who designed KASUIEN in 1959, designed the courtyard covered in white sand to resemble the garden of DAIGO's Sanboin. The garden, which is dominated by natural bedrock and features white poplar trees growing in a stream, is incorporated as is, and the gourds and cups, expressed in green, represent the waterfall water flowing from the bedrock as sake.
